Common questions

How much tax do I pay on £20,000 of delivery profit?

With no other income in 2026/27, about £1,931.80 in England, Wales or Northern Ireland (Income Tax plus Class 4 National Insurance), or £1,892.13 in Scotland.

Is profit the same as what the apps paid me?

No. Profit is what the apps paid you minus your expenses, or minus the HMRC mileage rate and other costs, or minus the £1,000 trading allowance. The calculator works this out from your earnings and miles.

What if I have a job too?

Then your profit is taxed from the first pound, because your salary uses the tax-free allowance, and the figures in this table will be too low. Use the job and delivery driving calculator instead.
